AI-Powered Features (OpenAI)
Journal Lock offers optional AI-powered features including personalized journal title generation, writing prompts, and weekly summaries. These features require your explicit consent before any data is shared.
- What is sent: The text content of your journal entries. No images, drawings, personal identifiers, or device information are sent.
- Who receives it: Your journal text is sent to our secure server (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards it to OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini API for processing.
- How it is used: Solely to generate titles, prompts, and summaries for your journal entries. Your text is not stored on our server or used by OpenAI to train AI models.
- Data retention: OpenAI retains API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deletes it. Our server does not log or store any journal content.
- Your control: You are asked for explicit permission before AI features are enabled. You can disable AI features at any time in Settings. When disabled, no journal text is sent to any external service.

We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and improve your experience.
- What is collected: Anonymous usage events (such as "journal entry created" or "paywall viewed"), feature engagement metrics, and app performance data. Events may include non-identifying properties such as word count or streak length.
- What is NOT collected: Journal entry text, drawings, images, or any personally identifiable information.
- Identifiers: PostHog assigns an anonymous ID to your device. This ID is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID.

We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions.
